The small community of Placerville is full of rich history since it’s incorporation in 1854. The city is located in the county of El Dorado California and is famous for being one of the three cities of the Gold Rush era. But before the gold rush, Placerville was home to the Maidu and Miwok Native Americans and Chinese immigrants who came to the area in the 1800s, and more.

You may have heard the term “hangtown” given to Placerville, that was because of the multiple hangings that occurred in the town. The history of this town is so fascinating, from the gold rush, mining services, and the railroad. We’ve all seen the western films and theres always a little town where the cowboys ride into on their horses, well, that was Placerville in 1848.

Flash forward to 2022, downtown Placerville has become one of those charming towns, with a historic pharmacy, shopping with some of the cutest stores, fantastic dining, bed and breakfast inns, local wineries and farms. With vast array of local recreational and family activities, Placerville has something for everyone.
