Apple Hill

More Than Just Apple Goodness

By By Adrielyn Christi Publisher Placerville Macaroni KID July 21, 2022

Nestled in the Sierra Foothills of Camino Ca, Apple Hill has undoubtedly become one of the most visited locations in the Placerville area. The Apple Hill Growers are an agriculture community with a rich history in farming and winemaking. Apple Hill is known not just for their apples, but for everything else in between. From apple donuts, apple cakes, caramel apples, fudge, pies and so much more. With over 50 local, family farms, the Apple Hill Growers are dedicated to supporting the agricultural community.

When originally founded in 1964 there were just 16 apple ranches, it has since grown to include unique fruit & vegetable farms, bakeshops, wineries, a Bed & Breakfast Inn, flower gardens, and Christmas tree farms. When driving to Apple Hill, you'll experience winding roads and scenic beauty all year round. Starting October 1st of every year, the beginning of the fall harvest season, Apple Hill becomes THE most desired destination for the all important Instagram picture. The changing colors of fall form on the leaves of the trees, autumn is in full bloom and with the vast amount of activities to do at each growers farm, it can become an every weekend destination for you and your family.

If you do plan your trip during October, expect traffic and lines. Especially after 10 am there will be lots of traffic so you'll want to come early. Most ranches open at 8 am, so you can get in a full morning of fun, finish with a picnic at your favorite winery, and be headed home by 1 pm. September and November weekends are busy, but not like October, and weekdays are great times to visit if you have a flexible schedule. If you've ever attended a music festival; that's what October weekends are like at Apple Hill.

Most kids’ activities happen on weekends, and there are more craft booths on the weekends. No kids? The wineries are open during the week, which gives parents and non parents the opportunity to get some wine tasting in.

Apple Hill is like no other location, you just can't beat the fun, the ambiance, the food, I mean it's everything. This is what makes me proud and happy to live so close to this magnificent attraction. I will be posting a calendar of events specific to Apple Hill in the coming weeks.
