It's Harvest Season

By Adrielyn Christi Macaroni Kid Placerville September 22, 2022

Oh, it's that time of year! Today is officially the first day of fall and with that comes corn mazes, pumpkin patches, and tons of harvest festivities. I have THE best places for you to enjoy the entire season from Camino to Plymouth Ca. These cities have some of the best places to search for that perfect pumpkin or just relax and enjoy the fall weather. Here's the list starting with:

1. Amador Flower Farm

This flower farm is open all year, ships from March thru November, and boasts over 1200 popular daylily varieties. The farm itself is nestled in beautiful Shenandoah Valley, California. Flowers are not just the name of their game,  the farm has so much to offer such as Picnic Areas where you can bring your own picnic lunch and spend the afternoon shaded by 300-year-old Heritage Oak trees, the picnic tables are next to a pond occupied by our resident ducks and frogs. Picnic tables can be reserved for your group for $5.00 per table; a good idea if you’re coming during their busiest season. Each table holds 6 people. You can give them a call at 209 245-6660 for more information.

Gift Shop

The gift shop is full of gardening gift items. From seeds and small gardening tools to great gifts for children – the shop inspires current and future gardeners! They offer a variety of windchimes and other items to decorate your garden.

The best part of Amador Flower Garden? The Pumpkin Patch! The pumpkin patch and corn maze are open to the public with no admission fee, 9 am-4 pm, 7 days/week, through October 31st. Your family will have a blast solving the corn maze. The littles will enjoy playing in a shaded sandbox, finding their way through the hay bale maze, and visiting the farm animal babies. Did you say tours? They offer free tram ride tours of the farm on weekends throughout October and they have LOTS of varieties of pumpkins and gourds that we grow here on the farm.

2. Boa Vista Orchards

Experience Apple Hill Family fun amongst the farms at Scenic U-Pick Pumpkin Patch! Boa Vista's Apple Hill Pumpkin Patch is open daily until Halloween and has been creating lasting family farm memories during Fall in the beautiful Apple Hill California Farming Area for Decades. Open 8 am to 5 pm every day until Halloween!

The family-friendly Apple Hill Pumpkin Patch is open and filled with countless farm-grown pumpkins! Enjoy a fun day in Apple Hill at the pumpkin patch and snap pictures with the famous Boa Vista family farm cut-outs and enjoy the beautiful scenery!

3. Mill View Ranch

Looking for that perfect jack-o-lantern pumpkin? Your search ends here. Their pumpkin patch is bigger and better this year so you’re sure to find what just you’re looking for. While you’re here be sure your kids visit our new Kids Town, an old-west style miniature town just for them.

4. Abel Acres

Abel's field of fun is open from Labor Day weekend thru Christmas Eve. Start with the Amazing Maze. The Maze is a puzzle to walk through, solve, and find the way out. There are horse and pony rides for the kids and their pumpkin patch has country cut-outs of a herd of cows, a tour bus, pumpkin, boo ghosts, and a witch. If you're hungry, there are multiple options for food from bbq to burgers. Trust me, you won't leave Abels without stocking up on pies, caramel apples, donuts, and more.

5. Grandpa's Cellar

Grandpa's Cellar is unlike any other orchard in Apple Hill! Get a slice of their apple pie and enjoy it under their 100-year-old apple trees! They are a seasonal bakery that specializes in pies, seasonal baked goods, specialty jams, jellies, and much more. Plus they are also the only bakery in Apple Hill that offers Gluten-Free baked treats! The kids will have so much fun in the pumpkin patch, maze, and more.

6. Willow Lake Pumpkins

This should be your first stop before Apple Hill! Come pick your own pumpkins and the kids will enjoy a free petting zoo. With the pumpkin patch nestled next to the El Dorado Trail, venture on a walk or bike to experience the beautiful sierra country views. Willow Lake's goal is to foster the small-town family feel and bring back the nostalgic memories of going to a field and picking your own pumpkins. By doing this they create a family-friendly environment away from the big cities and crowds allowing only 20 reservations per day. So be sure to book your reservations before heading up.
